Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center was opened to the public in 1982. Spanning over 275-acres, this nature park is named after the late Jesse H. Jones and aims to preserve the Native American and pioneer lifestyles which were commonly found along the banks of the Cypress and Spring creeks from the late 1700's to the early 1800's. Visitors can explore diverse ecosystems including ancient cypress bogs, natural white sand beaches and wildflower meadows. Recreational amenities include five miles of hiking trails, a nature center featuring live animals and displays, a large playground area, fishing, a picnic pavilion, pontoon boat tours and much more.
Lake Houston State Park is located in neighboring New Caney and offers over 4,900 acres of land with opportunities to camp, hike, bike, and horseback ride. Situated at the confluence of Caney Creek and the East Fork of the San Jacinto River the park extends northward. Fishing is allowed in adjacent Lake Houston where largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill are fair game in areas where habitat can be found.
